The Reason I Started Galleon Treasures
The Reason I Started Galleon Treasures

My Name is Commodore Daniel Red and I  started Galleon Treasures Parrot Sanctuary. It's purpose is to give  birds a place to go when their owners can no longer take care of them. As parrots go they usually do not take to others easily, so most if not all of the Parrots taken in will probably remain here with the Sanctuary for the rest of their lives.

Giving these parrots (currently 40+) a forever home where they can have large Aviaries (flight pens) was a must. They are also partnered with other parrots that get along together to be their companions giving them an interactive and happy life where they can grow out their flight feathers and have some fun. This also allows them to be  appreciated by the friends of the Sanctuary and be as close to free birds as is possible for them.

We do allow visitors to the Sanctuary. Handling the birds is strictly controlled. As we mentioned above it is unusual for a parrot to take to another person especially if the individual who raised it had it for many years. It can take a long, long time for a parrot to establish trust with a new person. As each case is unique it will always be up to me, Commodore Red, as to whether a parrot under my supervision will be allowed to be held.
If you have any questions about anything we do here I will be happy to answer them.  Please do not hesitate to ask anything, as the only bad question is the one not asked.
SincerelySincerely
Commodore Red

Would you like to Help out?
Do you have free time? Maybe you would like to come and help at the Sanctuary by contributing time. If you have a green thumb, you could help on the botanical section with plant care, propagation or donating plants.

Helping with the day to day duties of running a Parrot Sanctuary. You will learn a lot about parrots and how to handle and take care of them. It's very rewarding working with these magnificent birds. Each is an individual with their own attitude & personality.

Other Things you can do are Sponsor a Parrot. Making a monthly donation of $20 or more you can sponsor your favorite bird. If you continue your sponsorship for at least 3 months and wish it your name will be affixed to the Aviary where your sponsored parrot resides for as long as your sponsorship continues or you can become a Patron of the Sanctuary by making an anonymous monthly donation. Feel free to ask about the many ways you could help foster these wonderful animals.

Operational Costs

It takes over $1,400 per month to maintain, feed and care for the birds in our Sanctuary. Most of these Parrots belonged to individuals who can no longer take care for them and needed to give them up. As Parrots are very particular as to who they will allow to handle them most will never leave this aviary. It is our goal to give them a permanent home where they can be admired and cared for. So please consider sponsoring a Parrot, it does not take much and the benefit is great.

A Poem by Commodore Daniel Red

Naught all O' "Galleon Treasures" be O' emeralds N' pearls, nay, naught silver N' gold!!!
N' over a cask O' rum,,,,, tales,,,, all by thee fire be told!!!
O' shipwrecked timbered swans, nay, no more billowin sail....
Corpes strewn across thee sand,,,, kings ransom scattered, half buried, thee air humid N' stale!!
Parrots now loose arrived to this foreign land,,,
Sun bleached bones O' timbered swans amidst thee burnin sand!!
Bright hues now flitter through thee lands trees,,,
Screams O' these exotic Treasures, a new home across thee emerald seas!!
Now 'ave thee centuries passed away.....
Thee beach erodes N' changes year by year day by day.....
But thee parrots doth linger through many a year.....
Aye,,, til found by this 'ere ole buccaneer!!!
Galleon Treasures,,, across thee sands O' time......
Now planted 'ere N' this foreign land a shift N' paradigm!!!!
To linger were we naught free?
Time thee greatest O' teacher,,, but age doth consume all even this ole buccaneer,,,,, tis me!!!
A choice,,, always has to be made.....
To rescue before thar memory doth fade!!!
Galleon Treasures,,,, they be one N' all.... feathered gold....
What tis thar tale that will one day be told??
